Our ancient Rishis who were always interested in understanding and bringing about positive changes in humans at large knew very well that symbols can also be used to communicate with our own deeper mind. This knowledge was called Prateek Vigyaan which later developed as Yantra Vigyaan in the Tantrik fraternity.
